This post is an extension of the Making December Magic series.
Dearly beloved readers,
Happy equinox! Today marks the day of equal light and darkness, the moment in-between solstices which occurs twice a year. If you are in the northern hemisphere, it is the start of spring, and for those in the southern hemisphere, it marks the start of autumn. Many cultures and traditions celebrate the equinox as the new year, including Norwuz, the Persian New Year, and the astrological new year.
I am in the tropics of the northern hemisphere, so this writing will reflect that. We are north of the equator but not in “springtime” in Costa Rica: it is dry season and summer, hot, dry, and windy.
In honor of the equinox, I would like to offer a few trajectories for reflection: one, if you engaged with the Making December Magic series; another if you did not (or if you are new here - welcome!); and one for everyone. As always, feel free to adapt as suits you.
The general themes of reflection are:
Checking in with aspirations and intentions you have set around the 2024 new year
Releasing anything you don’t want to carry forward into the next cycle
Planting new seeds or reinvigorating aspirations for this next cycle and season
If you made December magic (or set New Year’s aspirations/intentions)…
We made December magic with the winter solstice and turning of the calendar year. We reviewed, reflected, and remembered, named the year, dreamed forward, cast a solstice spell, visualized, materialized, and celebrated. The equinox - a quarter turn of the year - is a great time to return to your intentions and aspirations (here you can find mine: 2024: The year of expansion) and see how they are feeling so far.
If you wrote a spell, reread it, perhaps out loud. See how it feels to return to these words. It might serve as a powerful reminder, just the words you need to hear in this moment.
Return to what you wrote in your spell and reflections, what aspirations and intentions you set, and check in:
How’s it going?
What feels like it’s moving and growing?
What wants to be reinvigorated?
What might not be ripe, or ready to let go of?
Give thanks for what has transpired so far. Acknowledge where you have shown up for your dreams. Double-down on what you want to recommit to. Let go of what doesn’t feel resonant any longer. Give thanks, give thanks, give thanks.
As I wrote about in my last post, Enchantable was born on the spring equinox of 2023. Spring equinox is a powerful, potent day to start something, to launch a project or to put an idea out into the world. Even if you are not ready to begin it or unveil it, you can cast a spell for it, tell people you are going to do it, or plant a seed for it (perhaps even a literal seed, if the conditions are right). If you have been wanting to start something but haven’t quite gotten going yet, today is a great day to take that leap. Energetic conditions and seasonal rhythms are supportive, and magical practice is working with this energy. It’s a great day to initiate!
If you didn’t cast a solstice spell…
…or set new year’s aspirations/intentions on your own, today is a great day to begin! You can use the same process, adapting the starting point as the equinox instead of the solstice. In a lot of ways, with the start of spring, it makes a lot more sense to start things on this day rather than in the middle of winter. Any moment, any breath, can be a moment of renewal and new beginnings, but with the spring solstice, you have the energy of the cosmos and seasonal rhythms on your side. I invite you to use the Making December Magic series as inspiration for reviewing your year and setting some spring aspirations.
For everyone:
As we make this seasonal shift, ask yourself:
What are some things I do not want to carry forward into the next season?
Write a list.
Tear it up and bury it or burn it safely.
Offer it back to the earth, and release.
Brain/heartstorm a list of:
Where in my life do I feel balance?
Where in my life feels out of balance?
Then ask:
What are some small adjustments I can make to moving towards balance?
What do I want to initiate today?
Offer gratitude back to the earth, the cosmos, the seasons, the rhythms, and energies that are supporting your dreams.
Write an affirmation spell of what you are committing to with this equinox. Mine is:
I create containers that support my life’s abundant flourishing.
An equinox blessing:
May we put down what we don’t wish to carry forward.
May this moment of balance inspire reflection to help us move towards balance in our minds, bodies, hearts, and lives.
May the energy of the seasonal shift support forward momentum in planting seeds and realizing our dreams of liberation for all.
May we dwell in gratitude for the chance to see the turning of the season.
Sending you equinox blessings from the pedestal altar,
Stephanie
