Making December Magic Together
Join me for on Zoom on December 18th! (Registration link included)
Dear beloved readers,
As part of my Making December Magic process, I choose a word of the year.
My 2024 word of the year was EXPANSION.
I couldn’t know fully when I chose the word what it would mean.
Living into a word for a year is a powerful practice.
This is what I wrote about it in my new year’s post1:
Expansion.
It feels scary to write this, to claim it, to say it out loud. Which is also why it feels important to do so.
I am calling in expansion.
Expansion like the rings of a tree2.
Expansion like mycelial networks connecting roots.
Expansion like rainy season plant life, wild and free.
Expansion as the result of slow, steady, sustainable, regenerative growth.
Expansion that is nourishing for everything around it, like a mother tree. Stable, supportive, collectively flourishing and nourishing.
Expansion of love, care, and creativity. Expansion of joy and freedom.
Expansion of hearts. Of spaciousness.
Take up space. Unfurl. Grow. Extend. Unfold.
And yes, my life expanded in many ways, slow and steady like the Taurus that I am. Speaking engagements and writing opportunities and relationships, relationships, relationships. A lot of outward, public-facing work and teaching.
But when I was sitting at my writing desk this morning, drinking coffee and doing morning pages, I looked up at the canyon, and I realized,
Expansion.
This is it.
It turned out, the expansion was much more in the way a river carves out a canyon than tree rings. Yes, the expansion has been external, but has perhaps even more been internal. It feels like the word brought me to this place, one of the most expansive views I have ever seen in my life that I get to look at every day (you can read about the serendipetous way that it happened in my post on changing views). You can’t help but feel both internally and externally expanded looking out across the canyon, the river, the valley, the volcanoes in the far distance, birds swooping across the expanse and monkeys clamouring across the roof.
Since we moved here in October, I have felt this view carving me out inside, making space, breathing room. Making a canyon of me.
What will I do with this spaciousness that has been afforded me, this great gift?
This is my task ahead, to continue to dwell in this spaciousness and from here, offer it back to the world. To allow the river to carve me out, sweep through me, and return its beauty as an offering.
One such offering will be my Making December Magic live call for Enchantable subscribers on December 18th!
Choosing a word of the year is part of my process of Making December Magic, which I shared about in written form last year and which I invite you to join me in!
I am hosting a live call for Enchantable subscribers on Wednesday, December 18th at 6:00pm Costa Rica time (double-check your time zone), ahead of the solstice (and ahead of my winter travels).
For me, making December magic is a month-long slow and steady process. This call will be a tiny dose of it, a chance to gather and practice together that I hope you can expand on your own in the slowness and darkness of the end of the year. We’ll meditate, we’ll reflect, we’ll give thanks, we’ll call in. We’ll cast spells - which is just to say, we will name and use the power of words to state our intentions, and invite the world to collaborate with us through action.
Registration is free and is required to get the Zoom link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
This call is for Enchantable subscribers. Please don’t forward this link directly. If you have friends who you would like to invite, please invite them to subscribe and then register.
I have long wanted to do live calls with Enchantable subscribers, and this will be the first one! This might be something that recurs in 2025 :)
Hope to see you Wednesday to make some magic together!
With love and care,
Steph
Making December Magic tip: return to things you wrote at the end of last year and beginning of this year. See what has transpired. You might be delighted!
