As a homeschooling parent I have the privilege of carving out seasonal breaks and we are just finishing one now. We begin again July 1. This time I ceremoniously boxed up all of the school materials. Out of sight, out of mind! And replacing them with an altar of sorts...a pot of mint for adding to water, a new puzzle and friendship bracelet supplies. A visual reminder of what this time is for. Noteworthy for me is that periods of rest can unearth a lot of negative emotions. Rest doesn't always feel pleasurable to me. It is restorative nonetheless.
“Rest doesn’t always feel pleasurable…It is restorative nonetheless”…I love this, and it reminds me of how often, when I go on meditation retreats, all this stuff bubbles up to the surface that had just been held at bay by being busy. I always become acutely aware of how much pain I’m holding in my shoulders, how busy my mind actually is….the process of unwinding can be hard! I loved hearing about the altar, too. I hope you enjoy the last day of the break and cheers to the new season starting tomorrow!
Just a reminder that I'm so grateful for each word you write. It's often a start to my regeneration for the week ahead :) I'm currently starting a two week session at my childhood summer camp. I always tell my friends and family it's my reset for the year. So it's fitting that you open my mind to considering the why and how of the regeneration sure to unfold over the next 14 days. Much love!
Yes! Thank you for this beautiful and important message. I too am experiencing the absolute necessity to regenerate and take time to just “be” now. Everything you shared plus focusing on unwinding my nervous system through nutrition, exercise (resuming swimming) and bodywork—massage. I also have writing to do this summer and a mosaic/tile project for our home that I’ve postponed while completing my doctorate. I was so happy you could attend my defense recently and thank you for taking those lovely screenshots and doing the postings!! Looking forward to hopefully visiting you sometime!! Wishing you a wonderful and revitalizing summer!! 🌞🌻🎊❤️
Ah, would love for you to come visit, dear Karen! And yes- post-dissertation is a time for some deep regeneration! I remember that summer after I finished mine, wondering if I would still want to write again 😆 but found there was all this new stuff waiting to emerge after that process finished. Sending you many regenerative energies as you exhale into this new phase and yes, some see us! 😄❤️❤️
