Thinking-with (Elder Teachers, Ancestors, and Recommended Resources)

(Recommended Resources)

We are never thinking alone; we are always thinking-with.

First I would like to honor the teaching lineages I come from, the teacher-elders and ancestors who I have studied with and who have influenced me deeply:

Ancestors:

Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism

bell hooks

Paulo Freire

Elders:

Joanna Macy and the Work that Reconnects

Meg Wheatley and Warriors for the Human Spirit

Starhawk and Magical Activism

I never had the chance to study with bell hooks or Paulo Freire while they were alive, but their writing and teachings have moved me deeply and greatly influence my work.

Here are some of my other favorite resources, writers, teachers, podcasts, people, and places who inspire me and who I spend a lot of time thinking with. I encourage you to check out their work, as I am sure it will inspire you as much as it has me.

This list will be updated on an ongoing basis; it is certainly ever-growing and non-exhaustive.

Ecoversities Alliance: a community of learning practitioners from around the world committed to re-imagining higher education to cultivate human and ecological flourishing in response to the critical challenges of our times.

And of course, my teacher Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh and the Plum Village community (I love the Way Out Is In podcast and the PV app as two specific resources to point you towards!).
